Aparajita Banerjee

Dr. Banerjee received her academic Ph.D. degree from the Michigan Technological University, USA, and graduate and postgraduate degrees from Jadavpur University, India. Dr. Banerjee’s research explores the societal implications of low-carbon energy transitions in countries like Mexico, Ireland, and the United States.

“I am a social scientist who looks at the impacts of energy and environmental policies on society, especially on vulnerable and marginalized communities. I study how energy policies can induce land grabbing, communities’ access to public goods, especially in rural and peripheral regions, energy and environmental injustices, lingering impacts of emotional responses of communities to perceived and real injustices in policy decisions, and how socially sustainable mining for critical materials can be ensured for a transition to a low carbon future that is just and fair for all. I am interested in Just Transition as I see it as a concept that has gathered strong political support over the years and can be pursued to address multiple wicked problems like social inequalities and climate change.
